Cuttings

The Mother plant method allows plants to grow while still attached to an original planter. The mother plant provides strength for the attached plant, feeding it with water and nutrients until it has grown a strong and independent roots system that sustains itself. Once this happens, we cut the connection, resulting in two individual plants. Similar to the cutting method, plants suitable for this method are the climbing and creeping varieties that can grow roots from their joints and stem.

We consider this method "playing it safe". The plant is already stable, so it won't have to overcome the shock of adjusting to a new home. Still, it is important to note that this process can take time and requires patience.

HOW IT WORKS

1

Selecting a Suitable Plant: The initial step involves choosing a plant that is capable of developing roots from its nodes. This trait is crucial for the cutting plants ability to grow into a new plant. Opting for a plant with this characteristic ensures that the cutting has the potential for healthy root formation and growth.

2

Rooting in Water (Optional): As an optional step, you may choose to root the cutting in water before its final attachment to the growing surface. This preparatory stage can significantly enhance the development of a strong root system, thereby increasing the cutting's chances of flourishing once it is attached.

3

Direct Attachment: Alternatively, the cutting can be directly attached to the intended surface using rubber bands. It's important to ensure that both the stem and the areas anticipated to sprout roots are making direct contact with the surface. This direct contact is essential for encouraging the rooting process.

4

Using Multiple Cuttings: For a more lush and dynamic plant arrangement, it is recommended to attach more than one cutting. As these cuttings grow and their roots become established, they will support each other, leading to a denser and more visually appealing display.

Key to success!

It’s important to choose a suitable plant for this method and understand where to cut to ensure it will root and grow on its own.
