What makes tevaplanter unique?
The tevaplanter is made from specially engineered ceramic material. This material is porous, allowing water to seep through and provide consistent moisture to the plant’s roots growing on the outside. The ceramic is durable, non-toxic, and designed to support plant growth without soil. Both the material and shape of the tevaplanter vessel were engineered to create the ideal home for plants.
To use it, simply pour water into the inner chamber, then attach seeds, moss, or small plants to the outer surface. Over time, the roots will naturally grow along the outside, drawing moisture from the water inside.
To keep your plants healthy, spray liquid fertilizer directly onto the roots every few weeks or according to the needs of your specific plant.

What's In The Box?
Inside, you’ll find instructions and rubber bands for securing plants.
- Tevaplanter: Tevaplanter body, lid, and base
- Tile: Tile body and lid
All components are designed to work for simple setup and easy plant growth.
How do plants get their nutrients or fertilizer?
On the Tevaplanter and Tile, plants get nutrients through direct root feeding, not soil.
Here’s how to do it correctly:
- Use a liquid fertilizer diluted according to the plant’s needs.
- Spray or mist the fertilizer directly onto the exposed roots on the surface of the Tevaplanter or Tile.
- Do not add fertilizer to the water reservoir. This can interfere with the ceramic’s water diffusion.
- Apply nutrients occasionally, not every watering—most plants only need feeding every few weeks.
The ceramic continuously supplies moisture, while nutrients are absorbed directly through the roots, mimicking how many epiphytes grow in nature.
What kinds of plants can I grow?
Plants that do best on the Tevaplanter and Tile are ones that naturally grow with exposed or shallow roots and don’t need deep soil.
Best-suited plants
- Orchids (especially Paphiopedilum, Phalaenopsis, Oncidium)
- Ferns
- Mosses
- Air-plant–like epiphytes
- Climbing & trailing plants (pothos, philodendron, monstera cuttings, scindapsus)
- Vining plants that root from nodes
Also possible
- Seed sprouting plants (chia, flax, mustard, watercress) for short-term growth
- Some small herbs when young, though not ideal long-term
Not recommended
- Plants that need deep soil or large root systems
- Root vegetables, large herbs, or fruiting plants
The system works best for plants that naturally attach, climb, or grow on surfaces, similar to how they grow on trees or rocks in nature.
How long can a plant live for on the tevaplanter
Plants like orchids, ferns, mosses, and climbing plants can live indefinitely on the Tevaplanter as long as they receive:
- Proper light
- Occasional nutrients applied directly to the roots
- Correct humidity for the plant type
Some orchids have been grown on the Tevaplanter for over five years and are still thriving, with no signs of decline. As with any living plant, long-term health depends on choosing suitable plants and providing the right environment.
